Description - BA305 AUSTER Mk IV In 1936 the Taylorcraft Aviation Company was formed in the U.S. to build light planes for private use, and in 1938 a British company was formed to build these aircraft under license. By the outbreak of WW2 32 aircraft had been built in England and of these 20 were taken over by the RAF for use as light liaison and artillery observation aircraft. The pre-war aircraft were designated Model C, C plus, D and D plus, but with the first order for 100 aircraft for the RAF the type was renamed Auster Mk 1. Five marks of Auster were built, differing mainly by the type of engine, but the Mk IV had provision for a passenger in addition to the crew, and the Mk V also had improved instruments. Of a total of 1600 built over 1,000 were Mk’s IV and V. Maximum Speed 130 mph, Range 250 miles
