Built at Gosport Navy Yard in 1862, Richmond was in
action on the James River in 1863 and 1864, but was
destroyed to avoid capture by U.S. forces 3 April 1865.
Sisters:- Chicora, North Carolina, Raleigh, Savannah.
& Palmetto State. Armament differed from ship to ship.
